Delight
Last night’s This American Life was about delight - a Kenyan-English woman who’d immersed herself in American pop culture and got to live the dream as a summer camp counsellor, a joyous five year old about to catch the school bus for the first time (but what if there’s no seats?), someone’s elderly mother who puts herself first after caring for her husband for the last ten years of his life, a night zookeeper. It can be schmaltzy, but also soporific.
I detoured through the park on the way to work. After a run of cool showery days, mushrooms large and small had sprung up. These are tiny, less than 10mm in diameter and looked too fragile to last the day.
