Devastation

There was a terrible commotion outside this morning. The spur-wing plovers had returned to their home territory to discover that it had been ransacked. There were nine of them, adults and juveniles. Their consternation was loud and raucous. They ran about, looking here and there, stopping for discussion, or simply sitting squawking.

Their territory is situated in the newly mowed field I blipped yesterday. The plovers didn’t stay long, but they are in for another shock when they return because the grass has already been transformed into big round bales.

Spur-winged plovers are also known as masked lapwings. If you look closely you can see the spurs on their wings. See extra shot.
