The nest is sacrosanct. The nest is a hamster's true home, where he can feel truly secure and safe.

If for any reason you are tempted to put your hand inside the nest, wether offering food or for any reason. You will get a nip!

Hamster's see it in the same way as we would if a stranger let themselves into your home without invitation.
