My quest to find bright winter colour on my walks with the spaniel almost came to an end this morning. Then, in extra time, I stumbled across this lighthouse in the gloom, a splendid White Saddle (Helvella crispa) fungus with its celery-like stem and distorted cap looking like an extra from Lord of the Rings.
