Squashing the sombrero
Lockdown 3.0 Day 1
Was it really 10 months ago that our "PM" said we would squash the sombrero in 12 weeks? As the overlaid graph shows he has succeeded in flattening the curve but maybe somebody should have explained to him it should be the X axis and not the Y access. After 7 days of more than 50,000 positive cases, another new record (60,916) and the ONS thinks between Christmas and New Year 1 in 50 people had the virus.
This lockdown feels worse because so many chances to reduce transmission seem to have been wasted and collectively we all suffer for those that went abroad in the summer, bent the rules and had a "normal" Christmas. Most of those cases today won't include the Christmas and New Year spread. With the vaccine available it just feels so slow, and this lockdown is at least 7 weeks but I think it is going to be longer. Too many false promises don't help and getting hopes up and then dashing them is worse than being honest.
