The dropped stitch

A lot to take in

Fabulous sky as I drove back home from the hospital. Sometimes the sheer scale of an Orkney sky helps to get things in perspective.

Dear friend L had another fall this morning and is now in hospital for tests. Our planned stroll round the village was overtaken by events. Instead we spent the morning in A and E.

And now L and her friends and family are faced with the prospect of 'What next?' Can she continue to live alone? What are her choices? Can she overcome these health issues and maintain at least some of the independence that's so important to her?

It's such a familiar story. It's a point many of us will come to in our old age. And when we do, it's a lot to take in.
