Still Standing
Back to normal this morning - the new normal, I mean.
On Wednesday mornings we meet to sing, and our third set of Zoom sessions started this morning. Our numbers are growing, there are some new faces along with twenty or so of the old guard. On January 25 we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of our national bard, so today we concentrated on some Burns songs.
TM set up the computer on the dining room and we watched the snow gently falling and the sun weakly shining as we sang. Douggie joined us. He seems fascinated by all the faces on the screen. It was pleasant.
Outdoors, it is still very icy underfoot, so we decided not to go for a walk. This would not be a good time to end up in A&E.
Instead I had a wander around the garden. It's looking rather bleak, but I see some hellebores in bud and the winter aconites are trying to push through the weeds by the top of the driveway. The magnolia also has lots of buds, but I worry that they won't survive this freezing spell.
There are still leeks and parsnips to be harvested, maybe some swedes too. My blip is one of last years artichokes which was left to its own devices. I like the way they look, but I'm not very keen on the way they taste, and they are a bit of a faff to eat. They die very elegantly though.
