Harbinger of spring ....... ?

I love the papery skeleton heads of hydrangeas in the winter, but was surprised to come across these brave cream flowers standing out from the apparently dead stems - and particularly to see the buds behind. These botanical pioneers are not alone, of course, and on today’s walk I came across other examples of daringly early blooms. Now more than ever we need such signs of brighter times ahead ......
