Kath's Journal

Kirkham

I'd arranged to go for a run with a friend, but we called off because of the ice and the slush. Instead, I went for a walk in the park and over the fields. This poppy display is a permanent feature in the park.  It is behind the war memorial.

My left eye has been firing its own little flashing light show, and it is now full of shadows and floaters. Apart from the floaters getting in the way, my main vision is fine, but to be on the safe side,  I've got an appointment tomorrow with an optician in Preston. My own optician can't help me during the pandemic, but I notice that the shop is open to sell glasses and frames! That's them sacked. No more 240 quid pairs of glasses off me!  They may well have a good reason for not being able to help, but there was no attempt at an explanation. Just 'No, sorry, you need to go to A&E'.  NHS say that isn't the correct procedure even outside of a pandemic. I shouldn't turn up at A&E if my vision isn't blurred. An optician should examine my eye and refer me to the hospital for an urgent appointment, if necessary. In the end I had to get a telephone appointment with my doctor who furnished me with a short list of opticians willing to deal with urgent appointments.
