Bye bye Toowoomba!

Silverback file:

Here’s some more Toowoomba street art.

We’ve moved on and are today camped at a tiny town called Lowood. It’s one end of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. We hope to cycle most of it over the next ten days or so.

Brisbane just had their first documented case of UK variant Covid, so they’ve locked down the whole city for three days while they trace all her contacts. Apparently she was a cleaner at one of the Quarantine hotels. Hard to say if locking down a city because of one case is extreme but maybe that’s why we don’t have any!

Currently all people entering Australia from overseas, go into compulsory quarantine for two weeks. Mostly these are Australians returning home. International tourism has been blocked for months now. Being an isolated island continent has had great advantages over the last year. Community acquired cases remain near zero. Most of our cases occur in the quarantined folk, who then go straight to medical isolation until they recover.

We’re still travelling in the rural areas of Queensland where there are no cases, but staying within a days drive of home just in case.

All the running on bike trails has made Enzo super fit. There’s barely an ounce of fat on him. We bought him the Furarri bed on impulse a few days ago and he seems to love it!

At the time we were shopping for lightweight long sleeved cycle shirts to protect us from the sun. More Australian logic that seems counterintuitive to those from colder climates I know, but when you live in the country with the highest skin cancer rate in the world.....
