Fort Haasdonk

This is the moat around the fort. It's still frozen in the afternoon and the Barnacle Geese who have flown in from Russia are a bit miffed!

After independence in 1830 Belgium built some National Defenses including two rings of forts around Antwerp. Details below. I've added an extra photo of the fort itself although it was in shadow when I got there. It didn't prove much use in 1914 but today it provides a home for a few hundred rare bats.
