View from the back door.....
just as the sun was setting. I think there were some amazing sunsets all around the country tonight and we were lucky enough to have one too.
I ventured out into the back garden for the first time in days, the snow has just been too deep for my wellies and the steps from the back door had a foot of snow! Reg and I had been for a short afternoon walk along the lane and he was keen to go round the house and into the garden when we got back. So we did. The light on the garden was lovely at that point making everything look clean and sparkling. I walked down to the first fence line, very precariously I might add, and took the extra photo shot up towards the house. Helpfully, Barry has walked tracks up and down over the past few days when he's been to feed the hens, who don't seem to have been phased by the snow at all. They have taken great delight in using the snow as a constant water supply! I have been excused hen duties over the last week or so as the snow has been too deep and treacherous. Also the weight of the original snowfall brought the fruit cage down onto their gate. We did manage to free it up as a temporary fix but then the recent bout has just weighted the pole so heavily against the gate there is no chance of removing it until the snow is gone. Hence Barry has to climb over the fence into the trees on their side to let them in and out of the coop, feed them and generally keep a check on their well-being. Luckily he has long enough legs to do this! As a result of all this he has decided to move the gateway out of all harms way as soon as the weather allows!
I finally decided on a design for my granddaughter's pop-up card. It took me a couple of hours other more just to find, resize and print off the letters I need! I almost gave up at one point but I refused to be beaten and I now have them all printed waiting to be cut out as it was too late to finish the job without rushing. Hopefully that will be completed tomorrow. Watch this space!
A nice long chat to Barry's mum on the phone after taking down her shopping list. It appears she needs another calendar which we often send, but didn't this year. I went online this evening and made her personalised one with photos of her grandchildren and great grandchildren which I hope she'll like. I was able to choose which month to start so I chose February as she probably won't get it for another week or two. That also meant she could have January for the following year, in case we have the same predicament this time next year!
This evening I sewed in the sleeves of my cardigan, a tiresome job but at least you get to see the garment coming together. I'll hopefully get that finished tomorrow too, although I'll have to search my button box to see if I have a anything suitable!
Another reasonably productive day.
