This is the scene outside the Cardinal's home. It feels like the gathering of the vultures...

I have known the Cardinal in two contexts over a good number of years - I have always found him courteous, generous and essentially human, if sometimes I have disagreed fundamentally with his expressed views. His resignation today feels like a tragic end to a very respected career. Yet - whatever the facts - there are a number of people whose lives are caught up in this story - we must bear them all in mind and hope for a fair outcome.
