Christmas Eve

Ordinarily Christmas Eve is spent wrapping presents and bitterly wondering why we hadn’t done it before.
But not today, whoop whoop!
I had a few little bits to wrap and Some nagging to get the Little Misses to wrap Nana’s, Papa’s and Uncle D’s.
But the table was clear (a Christmas miracle), the Baileys was poured, the Tesco Finest snacks kept coming and It’s a Wonderful Life was on the TV. Lovely!
Nana and Papa popped round at about 5pm to drop off our presents and collect theirs. It was awful just handing it all over and having a distant rushed conversation over the drive.
Fucking virus.
We turned off It’s a Wonderful Life (because my twenty first century children couldn’t be persuaded to watch it. Too old fashioned and weird and black and white and weird apparently. Philistines!)
We watched Frozen 2 and ate baguettes and paté and cheese. It’s not as good as the first one but pretty good. And it made me so happy to be snuggled on the sofa watching Anna and Elsa again. Like stepping back in time six years!
Before bed the Little Misses nagged to be allowed to open one present from Nana and Papa. Miss E knew what one of them was and wanted it for the morning. Against all my principles I said yes.
So Miss E got her Superdry Hoodie and immediately put it on and I suspect I’ll have to peel her out of it in a week or so!
They were nagging me to open one of mine but I said no as it’s wrong, wrong, wrong......
That caused a bit of tension.
But not as much tension as Miss L’s Harry Potter trivia questions. They’re based on the films not the books and are wrong, wrong, wrong apparently.
I got cross - it’s just supposed to be a bit of fun.
Miss E ended up in tears, inconsolable. Overwhelmed as always by the expectation of this time of year.
It’s heartbreaking to see  - there’s no joy, only stress and anxiety.  And Miss L overcompensates. And worries Christmas is going to be rubbish and why does Miss E get so upset?
And it’s all a bit shit.
When I came to bed after midnight Miss E was still wide awake. Mr K was getting grumpy about Father Christmas duties.
Happy Christmas!!!
