In The Occupied Territory

By FinHall

Tonight.

As you may be aware tonight I host one of my epic ( in size) zoom shows.
Today is 5 years since my musical hero, David Bowie died, and only if I realised it sooner I would have made this the theme for my show.
Radio 6 are having wall to wall Bowie today. His songs, his influences and Bowie influenced artists and music. Can’t be bad.
This is the album that really changed my life.

Here is a tribute poem I have just written.

BEAT OF YOUR DRUM

Where are we now?
Five years on.
Five years after the tears.
The shock.
And, I can’t help thinking about me,
And how I can’t explain, that I felt like the loneliest guy, for a while,
When I heard the news.

I read the post my daughter wrote
Made no sense.
Until, my wife read it or heard it
And told me.
For a moment there was a sense of doubt,
Right , someone is telling lies I thought,
But still my eyes held tears,
and years of him being my hero, different heroes,
Made it strange,
After all
He just released Black Star.
Number 25.
Going through many changes,
Rearranges songs to suit
Songs to fit
Songs to sing
A word on the wing.

I still get sad without you
But I hold the time I listened to your real cool world
And live in a happy land
Of the sound and vision you created
Where those outside thought you were nuts
But we know better, that not all your time was golden years,
Not everything was a fantastic voyage,
But it was enough.
Your fame and fashion
Your ideas and passion,
Day in, day out,
Never let me down.
