Mystery visitors

It was frosty first thing but it had mostly melted by late morning leaving a lovely sunny day.

F and I went for a walk from my house via the village castle.  This pair of ducks were here for part of last year and have now returned.  I can't find out what they are from my books or the internet so don't appear to be native to the UK.  They could be escapees from a waterfowl collection or hybrids perhaps.

They're perched on a raft on the moat, the coots will use it for building their nest later in the year.

We passed a couple of ladies on our way back who reported seeing a kingfisher flying over the moat and landing on a tree.  We called back to have a look but there was no sign of it.
