Degas

For Christmas I got a catalogue from a Met exhibition of Degas' Photographs shown in 1998. I had glanced at it but only gave it a thorough read today. Some of the plates were reproduced as negatives, this is an inverted shot with the ballet dancers now positive.
Degas produced compositions that have a snapshot feel to them with people or horses truncated by the picture frame. There is little or no evidence however that photography was used in this way by him.
