Stan the man...
We started the day with a staff meeting. We had a colleague discuss contingency plans for the upcoming election. We were advised to stock food and water, not to be in big groups, not to stay out late etc. We agreed to close the office on Monday and Tuesday and then to check the mood of the city after that to determine if we would make it to the office on Wednesday or not. It was sobering...but pretty common sense.
I am trying to watch the presidential debate and type and it is not working well. The eight candidates are sparring. It is very encouraging to see that the issues of corruption are coming up and the candidates are responding. It is depressing to see that most of the candidates are not without scandal.
The photo enclosed is found on my main road to town. Stano ...short for Stanely is running for Senator. Senator - we have a new constitution so this is completely new to us. The new system of government is not easy to understand even for the educated. We now have to vote for 6 positions (president, governor, senator, MP, women's rep and ward rep).. I say 'we' but I do not have the right to vote, unfortunately.
By this time next week, we should have voted and await the outcome of the votes.
