Ixtapa is located 5 km north of Zihuatanejo and is a planned resort area similar to Cancun. Even though it has been around since the 70s it has never really developed apart from the initial hotels grouped along the beach. There is lots of land still available for development, but I think for that to happen our airport would have to get more regularly scheduled flights from a variety of destinations. Not liable to happen in these troubled travel times. I rode my bicycle up the hill that separates our two, very different towns to capture this photo of the high-rises that populate their beach (as opposed to the low slung ones that dot ours).
