Picnic at Ilam Hall

Invited today by long-time friends for a picnic at Ilam Hall, and to see the snowdrops. We stopped for coffee in Ashbourne's department store, Bennetts, established 1734 - most wonderful atmosphere.

Sheltered in these arches at Ilam Hall (which is now a Youth Hostel) for an incredible picnic: salmon and cucumber sandwiches, then cheese on walnut bread, then ham and mustard, with baby tomaotes, massive strawberries, and all sorts. It was SO cold and misty, but totally beautiful.

We then went to see the snowdrops - out in profusion along various banks and lanes. I never realised what a strong perfume they have.
