Rood

Just about got time to blip this before I chair an evening finance meeting. I was prompted by airdaleknitter's picture of the rood in Elland Parish Church to show you this modern take from my church. It dates from the 1990's and was specially commissioned.

I've done a very quick bit of cloning to get rid of some of the more intrusive wires (they really show up in the spot lighting) but have made sure I've left enough to hold it up!

A depiction of Mary and John ("The disciple whom Jesus loved") kneeling at the foot of the cross, it provokes discussion which is, I guess, one of the benefits of art. Some love the anchor shape others the eyes, which are piercing to say the least!

I appreciate it as something that was here when I arrived, and is part of what I took on when I became vicar 5 years ago.
