Another day, another duck
After a very dull start there was a wee bit of sunshine today!
Interesting facts/slight rant:
The Department for Transport describes walking as “a safe activity with injuries and fatalities a rare event” (their emphasis).
In the same document the Department for Transport also states “The risk for pedestrian KSI [Killed or Seriously Injured] casualties is 22 times higher than for car occupants…”
One can conclude that driving must be a very safe activity. It would seem wise to ignore government advice (but obey the law) and drive to a chosen safe place (park, woods, promenade etc.) for walking exercise, thus “protecting the NHS” (I still find it very hard to stomach the government playing that particular emotional blackmail card) from the already miniscule risk that walking there entails.
It does make you wonder exactly why the government seems to want people to wander around the streets near their homes rather than driving (cycling is more dangerous than walking and motorcycling is as tantamount to putting a loaded gun to your head etc.) short distances to the area of their choice close by, and that’s not beginning to take mental health into consideration.
