Sketrick Castle
We bought a take away coffee in Killinchy and took it to Whiterock so we could sit somewhere beautiful to drink it :-) The car park is across from Sketrick Island and Sketrick Castle, so we did have a walk across the causeway to the castle. We were chatting to a lady who was walking her dog and who said it was possible to walk all around the island - but that we would need welly boots! We have had some rain recently! So we'll go back again and try that.
We also walked along from the castle to see the Lightship, the L.V. Petrel, it was an Irish lightship from 1931 until it was decommissioned in 1968, when it was purchased for £2409 & 10 shillings by the Down Cruising Club, it has been the clubhouse for the club ever since. Apparently it is usually open to the public once a month between May & September, something we didn't know but something we will remember for when things have improved and we're able to do visits like that again.
