Being Selective

As the Groundhog Days continue, it gets harder to find something interesting for a subject. But that's how it should be in order to develop, to push beyond the obvious and straightforward. At least that's how I justify my approach.

At first I tried to get the whole trunk in focus and when that didn't work, I took multiple frames, thinking I would focus stack. But then I decided selective focus might produce a more pleasing result.

I think it works because the dark line of the trunk takes the eye back into the image, but as there's little detail there, one naturally circles back and thus explores the whole frame. Of course, the lichen helps.
