Muirburn

Today I was volunteering again with the RSPB. We were on the Birsay Moors burning small sections of heather to create a mosaic which will encourage nesting by hen-harriers, merlin, red grouse etc.
Conditions were excellent- sunny, dry, and breezy. Nothing could have gone better as we all agreed but I think the gods on Olympus heard us and thought we were arrogant because, at the end of the day as the sun set, both the land-rover and the 'all-terrain' Argo got stuck and we took half an hour to free them.
