Safe walking.
On icy mornings we are very lucky to have this safe walk. It is the old railway track alongside the estuary. Its grassy, sandy surface is definitely non-slip. It takes just four minutes in the car to the starting point at Arnside Station. The line was built to bring coking coal from Durham to the Furness peninsula where there was plenty of iron ore.
Our walk to the end of the first section and back took an hour and a quarter. Views of the Lakeland Fells all the way.
My extra is looking back from the far end of the walk. Top left is Arnside Knott and top right is the rail viaduct.
