jujizashi
I haven’t taken many photos today as I was so absorbed in the sashiko workshop. It lasted for two hours and we learned four different kinds of basic pattern. This one (only half completed) is called jujizashi, or 10 cross stitch. I discovered that the back of the embroidery is just as important - neat knots at the beginning and end of threads and no big leaps from one stitch to the next. Getting the stitches to be even was also a challenge.
The tuition by Yiran was excellent and even though (as followers of my blip will know) I am not a big fan of Zoom, I managed to overcome my aversion to online participation and really enjoyed the workshop. I’ve been reading more about sashiko, traditions and uses, and contemporary applications, and finishing the samplers we started today.
It was lovely to see Sarah and Chris stitching along with me, and we even had a private Zoom “debrief” afterwards :-)
Thank you both for a wonderful gift!
