The annual art exhibition was held in the Nelson Queen's Gardens yesterday.
The sun shone with a vengence and a good crowd was there.
A sample of what was for sale.
The painting with the split rock is of Split Apple Rock which is in the Abel Tasman National Park between Kaiteriteri and Marahau. It is granite and estimated to be around 120 million years old. According to Maori legend it was split in two by two feuding gods who were fighting to possess it. To resolve the argument they used their strength to split it in two.
The scientific explanation is that water seeped into it which froze during an ice age, expanding and thus splitting the rock in two.
