Getting Ready to Blow
This giant puffball, Calvatia gigantea, came up in my greenhouse. At first I couldn't tell what it was, lurking in a dark corner. The line across it was caused by the stick I poked at it when it was relatively small. Yesterday I noticed that it had stopped growing and the skin was changing. Because I didn't want it blowing up in the greenhouse I carried it outside and put it on the edge of the rockery. It looks rather good there, but the skin is very delicate and I'm going to dispose of it before it explodes all over the garden.
I measured it and it has a circumference of 68 cms.
I had hoped to blip the full moon, but we have low cloud predicted night and morning all week.
