My Little Garden Patch

This is my response to the blip I set for this week's challenge.  Ralph Waldo Emerson would probably be turning in his grave if he knew his words were being used on the likes of fridge magnets.  Fridge magnets are odd artefacts really, so many are on fridges and in landfill across the globe.  This one has been on our fridge for many years and I still appreciate it's message of what counts as success - countering the self-doubt and lack of self-worth encouraged to thrive in the existing climate of measuring success in terms of ones financial position / level of consumerism / celebrity status.  Perhaps Covid has helped turn this on its head but am not putting money on it.

The full quote is “To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded.”

The lucky cat magnet I like because I do not have a faith and therefore have a tendancy towards superstition.  And perhaps we all need a lucky cat right now.

I should add that the blip is of a window box of Claytonia underneath the grow lights - can't tell if the lights are working as I keep picking off leaves and eating them.
