Little Red
We were so pleased to have the red-breasted nuthatch visit for the first time last year, and a pair has remained with us this winter. They are so tiny and quick! To protect their nests inside trees or wooden poles, they spread pine pitch around the hole to discourage squirrels, wrens and insects from taking over. To avoid the sticky mess themselves they fly directly into their nests! Feathered acrobats, aren’t they? • Newt had a vet appointment this afternoon which stresses out the whole household. None of the cats can hear me when I call them, but just the tiniest rattle from the cat carrier scatters them like roaches to every corner of the house, lol! We’ve been home for an hour and Grouch still has not made an appearance. Ducky arrived downstairs a short while ago because his internal clock says it’s time for dinner. They are a funny lot! • Tomorrow brings the list of more than 100 pardons from DT. Another one of his money-making schemes. Despicable down to his last full day!
