Golden Orb Spider

I nearly walked into this spider while mowing the lawn this afternoon. Talk about a brown moment! Golden Orb Spiders are very common in gardens around here. There is almost nothing worse for me than walking into one of their webs and I have done it more often than I like to remember. Their web is a golden yellow colour and very strong, hence the name.

In our wildlife book they are described as biting "only if forced". I don't want to find out. These are the spiders you occasionally see on the internet with small birds in their webs.

Nasty. Just writing about it makes me clench.

At least the lawn got mown before the predicted rain on the weekend.

Last night was the first night this year that I slept the whole night under the duvet. The weather has changed here and Autumn such as it is in Brisbane is moving along.

Bring on the weekend.
