Hometown American Legion
My uncle was the first Commander of this Legion Post in my hometown of Fallsington, so the hall is named for him. Dad was a later Commander - as noted on this brick that is part of a gazebo (see extras). Fallsington is a tiny historic burg, about 8 blocks long but only 2 streets wide. Believe it or not, there are not one or two but four (4) churches (including the Quaker Friends Meetinghouse) in this quiet community. The Pennsbury School system Admin building in town is a 100-year old two-story brick structure. When my parents attended school there, Room 1 was 1st Grade, Room 2 was 2nd Grade and so-on. I attended school at the newer Fallsington Elementary School on the same property.
When the new Fire Hall was built next to the Legion, the town turned its original land into a small park with a gazebo. People ‘donated’ funds and purchased a brick for the gazebo wall. I & my 4 sisters sat with Mom & Dad to decide the verbiage for the brick. Dad used the name “Bud” for whom he was best known, and Wife Vera. We 5 daughters could not fit each of our names and our hubby’s names, so we listed ourselves as the "Girls and Families”. Dad felt that “Ladies” would be more respectful. But I reminded him that all thru school we were each known as “Oh you’re one of the Appenzeller Girls”, and certainly the younger term “Girl” would be preferable into our later years, haha. And so the brick verbiage was agreed upon. Its a lovely little park and I am pleased to still be associated with this delightful community.
