Milavida, the former beauty
This is Milavida. The name means in finnish 'Silmän kantamattomiin' and in english 'More far than the eye can see'.
It is my absolute favourite building in Tampere in the middle of a beautiful park. I have just waited for a nice sunny day that I could blip this for you ;)
The building is alco called as "Nasilinna", it is a former palace on Nasinkallio, Tampere, Finland. It has so dark history, even if it is so white and lovely, absolute beauty.
The building was designed by architect Karl August Wrede, and the it was originally completed in 1898 as "Milavida" for Peter von Nottbeck. He e was one of the sons of the industrialist Wilhelm von Nottbeck, at Tampella-area. Unfortunately the family of Peter never could live in Milavida togheter, as Peter's wife Olga von Nottbeck died when giving birth to their twins at 1898 in BadenBaden. And a couple of years later Peter died having appendectomy in Paris. After these dreadful happening Edward von Nottbeck - the guardian of the young twins - sold this beautiful building to the town of Tampere in 1905.
As there was the civil war in Finland 1918, Milavida was a base of the Reds and was partly ruined at the fight. (There is of course made a movie too of the fight, writed by Robert Alftan and Claes Ohlsson. If you want to see photos of the movie, here is the address. Movie of Milavida fight at Civill war.)
After the war the city of Tampere fixed the Milavida building. At first only part of it and in 1952 the whole building was opened as the "Hameen museo" - a museum of country and province of this area of Finland. There you could see how finns lived in their old houses, how they dressed etc. In 1998 the Milavida's Hameen museo was closed in Milavida because of economical reasons - and it has been empty since. Someone says that there is chosts in Milavida, but I haven't ever seen any :)
Today many of Tampere's inhabitants have begun to force the Tampere city to renovate the Milavida again (there is a bit hurry for that already, as there is plants and even small trees growing on it's roof. It is made of wood and the surface keeps crushing...). There is already some promises to renovation, but you never know when...
It is so beautiful place and in some visions the Milavida could be a restaurant of cafe and there could be room for some calleries upstairs.
If you want to visit virtually in summertime in Milavida nowadays, please press here ;)
Have fun visiting in Milavida :)
