Joe's Blips

Toys for the Boys

With a beautiful sunrise in progress I ventured out to shoot the pink glow of the sun on the trees. Dismay! No sooner did I go out than the Finnish Air Force decided to use the sky for a bit of practice fun, flying a couple of F/A-18 Hornets. Very noisy  and not exactly low carbon these things cost 67.4 Million dollars apiece. The air force has spent somewhere between, wait for it, 1.0 and 1.6 BILLION Euro on refurbishing their old fleet and bringing it up to date. Flight costs are just in excess of ten thousand dollars each per hour.
Personally I cannot see any moral justification for this kind of expenditure in a country which pays such paltry amounts to its pensioners. Besides which they ruined my landscape photography this morning.
