A pair

I haven't blipped my red kite for nearly 4 months, but today she has a friend.  There are always several kites in the woods around here, but this one female nests in the tree below my kitchen window and has her favourite branch to sit on in the sunshine.  She lived here before we did and is quite comfortable with us.  The other kites are much more nervous.

She's the one on the left.  The bird on the right is probably a male.  I can't tell if he's the same male as last year, but he certainly looks very similar.  The male the year before was considerably darker.  I have seen kites flying round with twigs in their beaks on sunny days recently.  Another promise of Spring :-)
