Walking around
A quiet day (surprise...!) I slept really badly, so have been fending off pre-migraine head pains for much of the day. It's been good just to do some easy household things. This included a quick walk up to the shops and back, passing this new mural on the way... with apologies for a hasty and somewhat lurid edit in Snapseed :-)
A highlight of the day was a playful interlude on WhatsApp video with Jack and Frieda this afternoon. Now that we can't meet with Frieda in person at all, we're gradually evolving some on-screen versions of the games we would normally play face-to-face. Pulling socks on and off and giggling wildly, while saying 'sock...!' and 'foot...!' to each other; pointing to noses, ears, eyes and saying the words in English and in Greek; picking up plastic beakers and making funny noises at each other.... All of Frieda's communications with her Greek grandparents have been online over the last 9+ months. So she is adept at this. It's already helping with my halting progress in Greek (I am way behind the level of an 18 month old though... onwards and upwards...)
Otherwise, I spoke to Ruth on-screen too. She has had to chase up their insurance company, as this week's storms damaged their roof, letting in enough water to cause some of the bedroom ceiling to fall in at the back of the house. Not what she and Josh need, in week one of their new job. However, being back at work is giving them both renewed energy, I can see it in their faces.
And the covid numbers are still falling, locally. On the other hand, I see - via the BBC today - some reports of the view that I have been fearing and wondering about. That is, that the 'new variant' may, in fact, be causing more deaths than the earlier one.
