Artichokes in a garden

The globe artichoke is a variety of a species of thistle cultivated as a food. The edible bit is the flower buds. Once it blooms, like the purple one in the photo, it's too late. Then it's time to enjoy looking at the flower head, as do the bees which have been abuzz on it.
