Cold Feet

Today was a day with spells of sunshine and many wintry showers.  No wonder the birds have cold feet.

I have praises to bestow on the gas company.  Last night whilst cooking up attempting to cook up a storm ..........  the gas conked out, the boiler went out and the rads went cold.  We rang neighbours to see if they had gas, which they all did, so we concluded it must be only our supply which had failed so we  rang the emergency gas number and Centra came out within the hour.  Such a nice young man who identified the problem in a flash, the old meter housed in the ground outside the property had failed.  Nothing he could do except make safe and offer us heaters etc.  We turned down that kind offer as had some old caravan heaters up in the loft which we could use and a very, very old immersion heater to use if necessary.  He also told us to ring our own energy supplier first thing in the morning and they would send someone out to put a new meter in.  And so to bed, Brrrr, we had cold feet too!!

8am this morning and Mr HB rings our energy supplier who if it is anything to do with your account  seem impossible to contact.  However on this occasion Mr HB got straight through, explained the situation and was told that an engineer would be out within 4 hours.  It's bricking it down with snow now so we don't really expect a visit anytime soon, but at 11am said engineer arrived and by midday new gas meter installed successfully and we're toasty again, have hot water and guess what ...... I'm off to the kitchen again!!  So praise indeed and a huge thank you to all those lovely gas people who have provided such an amazing service.

As it's a Saturday and speaking of gas it reminds me of Flanders and Swann's  song 'The Gas Man Cometh'  although I'm glad to say apart from the gas man we didn't need any of the other services!!!
