2015-01-09 (Day 009) Palais Garnier

We started off our visit to Paris on an open-top bus tour of the city. The tour took in many of the city's famous landmarks, and on the way we decided to break for lunch at the Palais Garnier; the Paris Opera.

It turned out that there was a tour of the building available - and what a building it is!

We didn't get backstage, but the front of house is exquisite in an excessive, opulent way.

This is the main foyer of the Opera, with detailed, intricate decoration such as I have never seen before.

Some day we shall return, in full evening wear, to see a show. A new Bucket List item!
