2015-12-13 (Day 347) Cambuskenneth Abbey

Winter has arrived!

This view is of Cambuskenneth Abbey and beyond that, Stirling and its famous Csatle.

Cambuskenneth Abbey was founded around 1140, but the bulk of the building work was done in the 13th Century. What you can see here is the bell tower, which is one part of that 13th Century building work.

Not much remains of the rest of the Abbey; it is thought that this bell tower may have been preserved as it was a useful watch tower to look out over the Carse of Stirling.

Behind and to the right of the bell tower is Stirling Castle itself, the yellow Great Hall catching the attention in the morning sunlight.

And finally the river in the forground is the River Forth, still hugely swollen after the recent rains.
