Education day / Internationaler Tag der Bildung
To celebrate, here is the imposing entrance to my daughter‘s impressive ‚Grundschule‘.
Her school in the UK had a lovely ethos, committed teachers, and a brilliantly-supportive, digitally-connected parent community. But the building itself was crumbling, the resources limited, and the school street dangerous and polluted.
What a contrast here in Germany! The atmosphere is more formal, communication is all bits of random paper or handwritten notes in the ‚Muttibuch’ (even though it’s me, her dad, who drops her off every day), and Corona plus the strange aversion to WhatsApp makes linking with other parents hard work.
But wow, the facilities! A beautiful building, properly maintained, with everything from a library, sensory room, creative arts space, even a whole Lego room! Plus, most kids walk or cycle to school, so the danger and pollution from school run car drivers seems far less of a problem here. Karl Krull sounds like an interesting guy too, more on him another time...
