Mind map - the work life balance
During the 9am conf call Mr A (who was one of the attendees) sends me two emails, basically trying to offload actions that he picked up during call and was unable to resolve himself. Eight minutes after the call ends he rings me to tell me he could not see me on Instant Messenger. Thinking I might have been on leave he wanted to ring to let me know about the aforesaid emails.
Mama mia - this is just wrong on so many levels:
1) I was on the call with him therefore I am working.
2) My online calendar shows me as working.
3) I did not have Out Of Office set on my emails - a strong indication that I am working.
4) Why did he need to IM or ring me if he had already very recently sent me an email? it was as if to say if you do not answer this in 15 mins so I will send you multiple comms via different channels just to create the illusion of progress.
5) If I really was on leave would I have switched my office phone off.
It set the tone for the day and I had no time to get out and about to take some photographs. Emergency blip time called for some creative out of the box thinking and so following on from yesterday's workin' & relaxin' blip is today's view of a better work life balance.
