This image was taken on today's PE (permitted exercise) - a walk down to Aylesford village and back. The image itself is of stone carvings above one of the side doors to our local church - St Peter & St Paul's.
The church sits high up on a hill overlooking the village and the River Medway. The oldest part of the church, the base of the tower, is Norman - so getting on for 1000 years old. The nave (which dates from the 15th Century) and chancel were built at different times, which is why it is out of alignment - this is effectively a double nave and means the church is a lot bigger that it appears from a distance.
There is a marvellous view from the top of the tower - if you can cope with the ladder up to the top. I'm not great with heights so I have never actually attempted this - yet!
