Behavorial Modification

My dog is a very sweet and smart dog and the only problem I have with him is that he hates to ride in the car. He pants, he salivates and he quivers even on short car trips. I'm trying to modify his behavior. I started with purchasing him this little basket. I thought it might make him feel cozy to have his own little place in the car. I know it looks pretty goofy.

I am trying behavorial modification with him. Every day, we go sit in the car and I give him treats, pet him a lot and we just hang out in the car. After a few days of this, I'm going to start up the engine.
