International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Today is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day One way to spend time and thoughts on the holocaust is to lay a rose next to a so-called Stolperstein.
Quote from Wikipedia: The Stolpersteine project, initiated by the German artist Gunter Demnig in 1992, aims to commemorate individuals at exactly the last place of residency—or, sometimes, work—which was freely chosen by the person before he or she fell victim to Nazi terror, euthanasia, eugenics, deportation to a concentration or extermination camp, or escaped persecution by emigration or suicide.
Apart from Jewish victims, also others like Sinti and Roma, communists, Christians, homosexuals, etc. etc. are commemorated.
Our village has four Stolpersteine.
What I like most about this way to remember is that you have to bow your head to be able to read the text, and somehow in a way do the same for the victim.
