Some Industrial History
Took adavanatage of the better weather today to have a walk on the moor, close to home. I feel fortunate that there is so much beauty and interest close to where I live, even though everywhere is very wet at the moment. This path through the woods is part of a disused inclined plane. There were once two sets of rails here attached to granite sleepers. Blocks of granite from the quarry at the top were transported down the plane in wooden trucks attached to a cable. Using the force of gravity the empty trucks were hauled back up to the quarry on the parallel track. Given the size and weight of some of the granite blocks, the enterpriose cannot of been without some danger to life and limb!
