Wheel meet again

These railway wheels have been donated to Figgate Park by the adjacent railway works that overlook this former industrial site that has now become a wildlife haven. Proof of that was evident to us today with a clear sighting of a Kingfisher ( see my extra Blip) and with the frequent visits of otters. We always look for them but have yet to be lucky. The ones who live in Dunsapie Loch on Arthur’s Seat were featured in last night’s BBC Winterwatch. As the Kingfisher took off from its branch its blue flash across the grey water was a sight to lift the gloomiest of locked down hearts on this wet cold morning.

Our shopping habits have been revolutionised by the pandemic. Our supermarket needs are delivered to our door on a fortnightly basis sparing us from running the gamut of virus vectored aisles in the giant  nearby superstore.  Our fresh local produce is sourced by walking to our excellent vegetable shop, the award winning butcher and the fantastic fish shop all on Portobello High Street.

We came back along the promenade gritting our teeth against the stiff NE wind that was churning the sea into a chilly ferment. Surely no one would be swimming in this stormy water today? Wrong! Two brave ladies were determined that this storm would not stand between them and their daily dip!
