A Fascinating Day
Thank you all so much for your lovely thoughts and kind words on the passing of my friend Steve. I didn't sleep well, thinking of all the memories...years and years of memories. But he's at peace which is good.
Today a small group of us from the botanical garden went to visit the water and sewer utility folks in our county. They are cutting edge when it comes to water management - waste water, storm water, rivers...it's really amazing. In fact they're considered to be the best water utility in the US, if not the world. And here they are...right here! (My husband says they better be the best with the rates we pay.) At any rate, if you have interest in such things, here's their website. They have some fascinating projects going on that use natural treatment systems, ie: wetlands, to improve water quality.
At any rate, they are very interested in partnering with the botanical garden on a golf course in our county. Its bordered by the Tualatin River, which is the major river in the county and much of the 354 acres is a flood plain...but there are uplands perfect for our garden. Clean Water Services would do the wetlands restoration and we would do the garden. And we'd intersect on the educational aspects of water and watersheds, rivers, and water management. The water that they treat is so clean that it's made into beer...I kid you not! You might get a kick out of reading this website.
This shot was taken on a restoration project on the farm that they use to grow some of the native plants that they use in their restoration projects.
Happy Friday!
