The Great Eau approaching Saltfleet Haven

This chalk stream, originating in the Wolds, drains into the Haven (see extra). Saltfleet Haven was a significant port for many centuries. The dissolution of the monestaries and the associated decline of the wealthy clerical merchants was one significant set-back, and the opening of the Louth Navigation in 1770 cut it out of valuable trading routes. Add to those commercial blows a significant silting problem, it is now home for a limited number of pleasure boats and the odd small fishing craft.
